VASOCONSTRICTION
The cold temperatures of the caps cause the blood vessels in the scalp to vasoconstrict or become more narrow. This causes less blood flow to the area in turn also decreasing the amount of chemotherapy reaching the hair follicle.
Dormant State
The cold temperatures of the caps put hair follicles into a dormant or less active state. Since chemotherapy targets rapidly dividing cells, this reduced activity makes hair follicles less of a target. Additionally, the ‘sleepy’ state decreases the follicles' ability to absorb chemotherapy, further protecting the hair from damage.
